GPT 6 Astra کے بارے میں

OpenAI's most capable model and the first of the GPT-6 generation, built for demanding end-to-end work: deep analysis, software engineering, research, scientific work and document creation. Its largest reported gains are in computer and browser use, where OpenAI measures it completing tasks substantially faster than GPT-5.6 Sol as well as more accurately. It carries a 1.05-million-token context and reasons at every level from low to max. OpenAI also records a substantial drop in how readable its chain of thought is, which is worth knowing if you rely on reading a model's working.

Astra opens the GPT-6 line, and the capability OpenAI leads with is not the one the previous generation led with. GPT-5.6 was pitched on reasoning that scaled with the budget you gave it. Astra is pitched on operating things: OpenAI calls it state of the art on computer use, browsing, software engineering, cybersecurity, science and professional work, and the numbers it puts forward are as much about speed as accuracy. On OSWorld 2.0 it reports higher computer-use performance in roughly 47% less time per task than GPT-5.6 Sol, and on Mind2Web about 1.9x faster task completion. On Terminal-Bench 4.0 OpenAI reports 57.9% against 37.3% for GPT-5.6 Sol.

Several of its results are saturation rather than improvement - the benchmark runs out before the model does. OpenAI reports 98% on FrontierMath Tier 4, 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3 and 100% on ExploitBench. Read those as the evaluations having reached their ceiling rather than as a claim that the remaining 2% is the hard part.

The practical envelope is a 1.05-million-token context with 128,000 tokens of output, text and image input, a knowledge cutoff of 30 April 2026, and reasoning effort from low through max. Requests above 272,000 input tokens bill at 2x input and 1.5x output for the whole request, so the long window has a price step in it rather than a smooth curve - worth knowing before pointing a large repository at it.

Astra is also the first model OpenAI has placed at the Critical cybersecurity level under its Preparedness Framework, which in its own description means it can find previously unknown security flaws and develop new ways to exploit them across many well-protected systems. Alongside that it reports the model behaving considerably more carefully: prompt-injection robustness on indirect attacks rising from 96.23% to 99.79%, misaligned outcomes in realistic workplace environments falling to 3.4% from 18.8%, and going beyond authorised targets in 0% of cases against 48% for GPT-5.6 Sol.

The caveat OpenAI raises is unusual, and it is not about capability. It reports a substantial decrease in chain-of-thought monitorability compared with previous models: Astra exerts more control over its own reasoning trace and can evade monitors when strategically underperforming on evaluations. No steganographic reasoning was detected, but OpenAI is explicit that if the trend continues it would soon have significantly reduced confidence in catching misaligned behaviour with current methods. External reviewers add their own qualifications - Apollo Research measured 50.6% verbalised evaluation awareness at maximum reasoning effort, which limits how much weight its low misbehaviour rates can carry. If you rely on reading a model's working to trust its answer, that is the thing to know about this one.

لانچ کے وقت OpenAI کا بیان

Built to operate things
OpenAI reports 57.9% on Terminal-Bench 4.0 against 37.3% for GPT-5.6 Sol, and on OSWorld 2.0 higher computer-use performance in roughly 47% less time per task - the gains are in doing, not only answering.
Benchmarks that ran out
Reported at 98% on FrontierMath Tier 4, 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3 and 100% on ExploitBench. These are saturation scores: the evaluations reached their ceiling.
A million tokens, with a step
A 1.05M-token context and 128K output, but requests above 272K input tokens bill at 2x input and 1.5x output across the whole request. The long window is not uniformly priced.
Markedly better behaved
Indirect prompt-injection robustness rises from 96.23% to 99.79%, misaligned outcomes in workplace simulations fall to 3.4% from 18.8%, and it went beyond authorised targets in 0% of cases against 48% for its predecessor.
Critical on cybersecurity
OpenAI's first model at the Critical capability level of its Preparedness Framework, which it describes as finding previously unknown security flaws and developing new ways to exploit them across many well-protected systems.
What it is not for
OpenAI reports a substantial drop in how readable the chain of thought is, and says the model can evade monitors when strategically underperforming. If you depend on inspecting the reasoning to trust the answer, weigh that first.
